Sherlock Season 1

Sherlock season 1 poster BBC One channel “Sherlock” is one of the most recent screenings of Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels about the great detective, created by Steven Moffat who is also known for running “Doctor Who”. “Sherlock” is an unconventional version of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. The distinctive feature of the series is that the action is set in the 21st century where Holmes sends text messages and reads news from the Internet instead of Times while Dr. Watson is surprised how his friend can recognize a pilot by looking at a person’s thumb and an IT specialist by his tie. Despite the fact that the realia of Victorian age have been replaced by modern ones, the series is very close to the original text and is full of both direct quotations and hidden references. And even though some find Holmes’ personality too “doctorish” and reminiscent of the main character from “Doctor Who”, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss should be given credit for creating such an original adaptation of the popular story.
